Kevin and his wife, Gwen, started on an unexpected adventure when they attended a local DFACS parenting class. What started as a fun date night ultimately led them to foster and adopt a child into their family. After this life changing experience, Kevin and Gwen knew they wanted a place for others to experience this kind of New Ground, a place where people can feel comfortable to renew their relationships and grow together.
Kevin and Gwen first put in an offer on an old church before even seeing the condition of the building, but after inspection they knew this was not their “New Ground”. Although this may have felt like a set back, it was really the moment that got them both thinking in a new lane and seeing an opportunity to create a community center that has a bigger impact. In 2016, Kevin and Gwen found the perfect blank canvas, a 15- acre property with a small historic farmhouse in the heart of Canton, Georgia.
Today, New Ground Foundation is a place that works hard to provide a welcoming environment for parents and families to discover “new ground” in their lives. The goal is that through workshops, retreats, and resources, the foundation will empower individuals to cultivate deeper connections with themselves and others, fostering personal growth and creating a lasting impact.
Our Story
Why the name “New Ground”?
The name "New Ground" was derived from the heritage of the land. The story goes that one of the previous owners, a farmer named Pinyan, was clearing an area for a watermelon patch and referred to it as "New Ground." After learning about the history of the land, Kevin and Gwen were inspired by this concept of clearing something old to create "New Ground" for something new and beautiful to grow. Thus, the name "New Ground" was born.
